Intraoperative sonography of meningiomas.

چکیده
Four meningiomas were scanned during surgery using a commercially available, real-time sector sonographic scanner. Each lesion was ext remely well defined , and its effects on the surrounding brain were easily characterized by su rround ing edema and displaced ventricles. In one case, sonography demonst rated the nonresect ability of a portion of the tumor because of involvement of the superior sagittal sinus. Th is preliminary experience suggests sonographic imaging may be useful during the resection of meningiomas.

Intraoperative spinal sonography: adjunct to metrizamide CT in the assessment and surgical decompression of posttraumatic spinal cord cysts.
Ten patients with prior spinal cord trauma were examined preoperatively by metrizamide computed tomography (CT) and were studied subsequently by intraoperative spinal sonography. On comparing intraoperative sonography with metrizamide CT, it was found that metrizamide CT tends to overestimate the size and number of posttraumatic cysts, that areas of myelomalacia on metrizamide CT correspond to ...
متن کاملImplementation of 0.23 T Magnetic Resonance Scanner to Perioperative Imaging in Neurosurgery
The purpose of the present study was to implement a unique low-field open magnetic resonance scanner for perioperative imaging in neurosurgery. A paradigm was created for joint intraoperative/interventional MRI, including premises, surgical practice and an operational model. The feasibility of the paradigm was tested in clinical work. The joint use of the facilities between the Departments of N...

OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to review the technical aspects and the clinical applications of intraoperative sonography of the central nervous system (CNS) as well as the characteristic appearances of brain and spine diseases. METHODS A pictorial review of cases is presented on the basis of the performance and interpretation of intraoperative sonography of the CNS from January 1998...
متن کاملCharacterization of intracranial neoplasms by CT and intraoperative sonography.
Twenty-one adult male patients with 24 intracranial neoplasms were studied with intraoperative sonography and preoperative computed tomography (CT). Both methods defined the lesions, but the characteristic appearances were different. Sonography was more effective than CT in determining whether a lesion was cystic, with or without septations, or solid. Most importantly, sonography was an intraop...
متن کاملIntraoperative and postoperative gamma detection of somatostatin receptors in bone-invasive en plaque meningiomas.
OBJECTIVE Scintigraphy with a radiolabeled somatostatin analog ((111)In-diethylenetriaminepenta-acetic acid octreotide) detects the somatostatin receptors that are found in vitro in all meningiomas. Previous studies have proved the benefit of radioimmunoguided surgery, with a hand-held gamma probe, for the assessment and removal of neuroendocrine tumors. We conducted a study to determine whethe...
